We were passing through town and looking for a real "local" restaurant -- and they were hard to find!! Lots of chain places. But deep in the heart of Fort Dodge is a real gem: George's Diner! George, himself, greeted us when we entered. The restaurant is small, but very neat and clean. The kitchen? Spotless! On his recommendation, we tried the cheese coneys with everything - best decision of the day! They are not topped with chili, a special recipe of spiced hamburger meat. Absolutely delicious! When I asked about it, George told me it is a recipe from a local restaurant that closed in the 50s, Amos & Andy's. He says he still buys the spiced directly from the family who owned the original restaurant. NOTE: they do not have hot sauce! George says he only gets a request for it about once a year.

During my visit to Ft Dodge I made my way to my favorite coney spot. Still very good.
